lifts! and being hangry

Today we did LIFTS in choreography class! A dance dream come true!

I did this lift with J where I run at him from the side, do a split in midair with my arms outstretched to the sides, and he catches me as I fall and tuck my legs in to my chest. It ended up with my sweaty armpit squelching on his arm. GROSS, but hilarious!

Second lift was much nicer. We sway like grass, then I take a couple step forwards, lifting my right arm. Jake approaches me from behind, sort of burrows his way under my raised arm and lifts me up and over his left shoulder. He continues walking as I fold backwards like a swan. It’s really pretty~

That was the highlight. Lowlight was being hangry (so hungry that you’re angry!). I can’t seem to bring enough food with me to college. I use this huge rucksack, and you might think that I have my dance clothes in there, but no. I wear most of my dance clothes on me. 80% of my rucksack is filled food that I consume over the day. And then I go home and eat a huge dinner. It’s a bit sickening to imagine I consume more than a rucksack’s worth of food a day.

love your article, and now @55yo i am n that dream middle eastern/gypsy cabaret style,le danse de ventre, hope i spelled that right???your right about the food bill. love to eat, dancing certainly is athletic. do u know of any special foods that give you more energy? i like mostly vegetarian, brown rice, barleys, organic fruit, but really like meats that are wild or buffalo. beef- not so much. i was a nurse, so i do mostly good to my body,i do drink ginseng, since i am older, it seems it helps with faatigue between class&exercises.i believe we should pursue those dreams we set aside for one reason or another, even if we r older or feel awkward, bravo to u for making others smile, even when u don’t reach your goal at times.merry christmas &thanks for sharing.gypsy

Hi Gypsy! I’m glad you’re enjoying the blog, it’s given me motivation to try to update it a bit more ^_^ Ooh, I’m always glad to hear people are living their dream dancing! Let me know if you have a blog, I’d love to follow you :)

Haha, I may be the wrong person to ask about ‘special foods’ – I sort of just inhale whatever food comes my way. I try to make sure I eat a banana every day so I have enough potassium, and then I try to choose fish when I feel like meat, but that’s about it. Some of my classmates eat wholemeal rolls with marmite, peanut butter, and cucumber slices, which I’m now addicted to. I’ll try to give this more thought though!

Yeah, we owe it to ourselves to make ourselves as happy as possible, right?? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

    Interesting blog!

“Hangry”- love it :) I´m always hangry too. I don´t understand how people at work get by on a mere sandwich. Then again, they don´t have dance class after work!

I like to eat bananas, lots of them. I think I easily eat about 700 bananas each year. Peanut butter is good too, as is protein-enriched fat-free milk and tuna or chicken with brown rice. Also, what I really like are those all-natural granola bars with nuts and figs and oatmeal..

Oh, and I kinda hate you. Not really of course, I´m just envious about the pas de deux-class! I did some two years ago, when we partnered up for our spring recital, but it was pretty basic and safe stuff. Would so love to do more. If there were only more men taking class..

Hi Johanna! Sorry it took me so long to reply, got a bit busy when college started up again.

Yeah, I’ve been trying to notice what other dance students eat, and maybe it’s because they’re not ‘professionals’, but their diets are atrocious most of the time! This girl has a huge slice of cake which she wraps up in tinfoil and eats before first class most days, and for lunch she’d have a jacket potato with cheese. I guess they are young and can get away with it :O

You just mentioned all of the favourite foods I eat between classes :D I also buy lots of smoothies when they are on sale, they help curb my cravings without making me feel to heavy for class :)

Haha, I’ll take that as a compliment! I did love it very much. We do very little of it in class, but I’ve recently started taking acrobatics/acrobalancing courses at this circus school in town, and there is a lot of partnering work which is just as fun! Today we did the Dirty Dancing lift, except with the partner lying on the floor and lifting us up with the legs. Super fun!
